Construction Testing Technician
Position Description
Perform construction testing and materials laboratory duties for concrete, asphalt, aggregate, soils, and earthwork projects.
Position Requirements
- Associates Degree from a Construction Technology or Engineering academic program which includes course work related to construction material testing and procedures, reinforced concrete, and surveying OR Minimum of 5 years practical experience in related construction field.
- Physically able to perform all tasks. Material sampling and testing will require lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Applicant must also hold valid driver’s license and have the ability to operate company owned vehicles.
- Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Experience with inspection of Department of Transportation construction projects is preferred.
- Practical experience in reading plans and specifications and applying information in field preferred.
- Experience with surveying, staking, and layout preferred.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform variety of standard tests to ensure quality control.
- Provide testing documentation using standard IIW procedures and forms.
- Maintain daily testing reports and regularly inform project engineer of project status.
- Collect material samples according to standard procedures.
- Verify and report on adherence to contract documents.
- Ability to read and apply concepts of plans, specifications, and standards involved in the construction of projects with assistance from project engineer if necessary.
- Clean, maintain, and calibrate testing apparatus according to ASTM requirements.
- Maintain equipment in good working order.
- Perform concrete cylinder compressive strength tests.
- Assist collecting documentation of existing field/building conditions.
- Assist survey department in the collection of field data and construction staking.
