Structural Entry Level Engineer
Position Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering.
- Successful completion of Fundamental of Engineering exam preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff, clients, contractors, and code officials.
- Practical experience with AutoCAD preferred.
- Willingness and ability to work in a team atmosphere.
Project Related Responsibilities
- Assist the project engineer in responsible charge.
- Assist technical staff in producing construction documents using AutoCAD.
- Work with design team to develop plans, details, notes, schedules, etc. for construction drawings.
- Research design criteria including building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide field observations and documentation of existing conditions.
- Prepare project related correspondence including proposals, design reports, addenda, construction observation reports, etc.
- Prepare structural calculations emphasizing hand calculations to support software results.
- Develop design aids as productivity tools for staff use (i.e. spreadsheets, etc.).
- Prepare cost estimates.
- Provide construction submittal review for conformance with the contract documents.
- Assist with construction observations and inspections.
Professional Development
- IIW offers the opportunity to work on a variety of structural/architectural engineering projects under the direction of Licensed Professional Engineers. Structural projects include; commercial, industrial, institutional, residential, and environmental structures, structural assessments, and bridges. A wide variety of design techniques and construction materials including: reinforced concrete, steel, wood, aluminum, etc. are utilized. IIW emphasizes training and professional development to facilitate your growth as an engineer. Engineers are eligible for an Associate Professional position upon earning a Professional Engineer License and meeting the other requirements of this level.
