Structural Engineering Summer Intern
Position Description
Assist with a variety of structural/architectural engineering design projects which includes commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings; bridges; and environmental facilities. Employment term desired is for summer and/or fall semester. Future permanent full time employment may also be available.
Position Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering undergraduate or graduate academic program.
- Desire to pursue a Master of Science Degree in Structural Engineering.
- Completed course work related to structural engineering design.
- Practical experience with AutoCAD preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients and staff.
Project Related Responsibilities
- Work under the direction of a Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Research design criteria including building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide documentation of existing conditions.
- Perform engineering assignments requiring application of engineering formulas, standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Prepare structural calculations incorporating hand calculations to support software results.
- Prepare document review comments and detail sketches to convey the design intent.
- Develop design aids as productivity tools for staff use. (i.e. spreadsheets, etc.)
- Assist support staff in producing construction documents using AutoCAD.
- Review construction submittals for conformance with the contract documents.
Career Development
