Municipal/Land Development Civil Engineer

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer licensure or on path to Professional Engineer licensure when eligible.
  • Minimum of three years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and staff.
  • Experience, proficiency, and expertise in all or some of the following areas:
    1. Water Systems. Including Water Distribution Systems, Well Design, and Process Piping.
    2. Urban/Rural Paving and Utilities.
    3. Sanitary and Storm Sewer Systems.
    4. Erosion control and grading.

Project Related Responsibilities

Design and Specification Writing
  • Act as Engineer of Record in responsible charge of projects when licensed.
  • Research regulatory issues and ask general questions of regulatory officials.
  • Develop preliminary/conceptual design studies and reports.
  • Prepare design calculations using engineering formulas and skills.
  • Prepare, review, and modify detailed plans and specifications.
  • Supervise staff engineers, technicians, and clerical staff.
Project Administration
  • Act as client manager which includes:  meeting with clients to define scope of work, prepare engineering agreements, represent IIW at public meetings, and attend project meetings as required.
  • Prepare permit and grant applications.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines.
  • Prepare regulatory permits.
Construction Administration
  • Review submittals to verify compliance with construction documents.
  • Coordination of project construction with contractor.
  • Supervision of on-site observations of work in progress.
  • Preparation of payment forms.

Other Responsibilities

  • Marketing, represent IIW at interviews, meetings, etc.
  • Develop proposals and statements of qualifications for prospective projects.

Professional Development

  • Position will be eligible for promotion to an Associate Professional Level as goals of the level are met. Position also offers opportunity to earn a position as a Company Principal.
