Construction Inspector
Position Description
Perform construction inspection and testing duties for grading, street paving, sanitary and storm sewer, water main, and building projects.
Position Requirements
- Bachelors or Associates Degree from a Construction Technology academic program which includes course work related to construction procedures, material testing, surveying, and computer applications including CADD drafting.
OR
- Minimum of 5 years practical experience in construction of municipal projects (sanitary and storm sewer, water main, street paving) in supervisory capacity.
- Practical experience in reading plans and specifications and applying information in field.
- Physically able to perform all tasks. Material sampling and testing will require lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Applicant must hold valid driver’s license and have the ability to operate company owned vehicles.
- Willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Organizational and problem solving skills.
- Experience with surveying, staking, and layout preferred.
- Experience with inspection of Department of Transportation construction projects is preferred.
Positions Responsibilities
- Observe contractor and ensure adherence to plans and specifications, check grades and elevations, collect and record routine measurements and compare to project plans and specifications.
- Review traffic control measures for projects.
- Verify and report on adherence to contract documents.
- Document construction progress and maintain records for construction record drawings.
- Maintain daily inspection reports and regularly inform project engineer of project status.
- Ability to read and apply concepts of contracts, plans, specifications and standards involved in the construction of projects with assistance from project engineer if necessary.
- Obtain measurements and manage records necessary for pay estimates.
- Perform variety of standard tests to ensure quality control.
- Verify grades, slopes, properties, qualities, quantities of all materials and work being incorporated into a project as directed.
- Clean, maintain, and calibrate testing apparatus according to ASTM requirements.
