Civil/Municipal Entry Level Engineer

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Successful completion of Fundamental of Engineering exam preferred.
  • Interest and educational experience in the following areas desired:
    1. Water Distribution Systems including Well Design, Water Main Design and Pumping Facilities.
    2. Sanitary Sewer and Storm Sewer Systems.
    3. Urban/Rural Street Design.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, clients, contractors and governmental bodies.
  • Practical experience with AutoCAD preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills along with strong problem solving, organizational and mathematical abilities.

Project Related Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of a Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Perform engineering assignments requiring application of engineering formulas, standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Attend City Council meetings on occasion with Project Engineer.
  • Research regulatory issues and ask general questions of regulatory officials.
  • Assist with regulatory agency permit applications.
  • Assist in the development of studies and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed plans and specifications.
  • Review construction submittals to verify compliance with construction documents.
  • Assist with on-site construction observation tasks.
  • Assist with construction documentation.

Professional Development

  • IIW offers the opportunity to work on a variety of municipal projects under the direction of Licensed Professional Engineers. IIW emphasizes training and professional development to facilitate your growth as an engineer. Position will be eligible for promotion to an Associate Professional upon earning a Professional Engineer License and meeting the other requirements of this level. Position offers long term opportunity to earn a position as a Company Principal.
